Bend It Like Beckham (2003) Netflix

Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra is an 18‑year‑old British Punjabi who lives in West London and dreams of playing football professionally — idolizing David Beckham and spending every spare moment kicking a ball. Her traditional Sikh parents, however, expect her to follow a more conventional path: study law, learn the household skills needed for an arranged marriage, and behave like the perfect daughter.
When tomboyish Juliette "Jules" Paxton spots Jess’s natural talent in a park game and persuades her to try out for the local women’s team, Jess finds a place where her ability and ambition are celebrated. That new life brings friendships, rivalry, and a complicated attraction to the team’s coach, Joe. Tensions rise at home when Jess’s footballing is discovered and she’s punished for bringing embarrassment on the family, forcing her to continue playing in secret.
Things come to a head when the crucial match — with a U.S. scout in attendance — is scheduled on the same day as Jess’s sister’s rescheduled wedding. Faced with choosing between family duty and her chance to pursue the sport she loves, Jess must decide what kind of life she wants. The film blends comedy and heart to explore cultural expectation, gender roles, loyalty and the courage to follow your own path.
