The story tells the life of a family living in the city of Kure (Hiroshima) during World War II. There we meet Suzu Uranus, a young wife who moves to the city of Kure from a small fishing village after marrying Shusaku Hojo, an officer of the navy who proposes her marriage and who he knows since they were children. Suzu will remain with great determination and courage throughout that harsh time of the country.
