Touching the Void dramatizes the true 1985 climb of the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes and the harrowing aftermath when the expedition goes wrong. After reaching the summit, Joe Simpson breaks his leg on the descent and, lowered slowly by his partner Simon Yates, is accidentally dropped into a crevasse. Believing Simpson dead, Yates is forced to make an anguished choice that places both men’s lives in jeopardy. Combining reenactments with the climbers’ own accounts, the film chronicles Simpson’s astonishing fight for survival and the moral and physical limits tested by their ordeal.
