After quitting her job as a clinic nurse, Caroline (Hudson) is hired to care for an elderly man who has suffered a stroke, though her wife (Rowlands) greets her with some suspicion. The marriage lives in a sinister southern mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans, in the Mississippi delta (Louisiana). Intrigued by the strange customs of the enigmatic couple, Caroline decides to explore the house.
