Chainsaw Man follows Denji, a desperate young man drowning in his deceased father’s debt who survives by doing dangerous jobs for the yakuza alongside his loyal companion, Pochita — a small devil who looks like a dog with a chainsaw. After a betrayal that leaves Denji dead, Pochita merges with him to save his life, transforming Denji into a violent chainsaw-wielding human-devil hybrid.
Rebuilt and hungry for a better life, Denji is recruited into the government’s Public Safety Devil Hunting division, where he’s paired with the Blood Fiend Power and the stoic hunter Aki Hayakawa and comes under the sway of the enigmatic Makima. What begins as crude, brutal missions soon spirals into a global-scale conflict: assassins, rival hybrids, and the terrifying Gun Devil all converge on Denji, whose fame and powers draw both allies and deadly enemies.
Part action-horror, part dark comedy and emotional drama, the series tracks Denji’s crude but sincere desires for simple comforts and connections amid shocking betrayals and monstrous battles. As loyalties are tested and the true nature of power and control is revealed, Denji must confront who — and what — he’s willing to become to protect those he cares about and to finally live on his own terms.
