Set some years after the Majin Buu saga, Beerus — the fearsome God of Destruction — awakens and, guided by his attendant Whis, learns that Frieza was recently toppled by a Saiyan named Goku. Intrigued and eager for a worthy foe, Beerus heads to Earth; despite warnings from King Kai, Goku challenges him and is swiftly outmatched. As Beerus threatens the planet, Earth's defenders realize only a divine power can stand against him, so they turn to an ancient Saiyan ritual that can produce a Super Saiyan God. The resulting showdown between god and Saiyan will determine whether the planet — and possibly the universe — survives.
