Set against the turmoil of Argentina’s 2001 “corralito," Heroic Losers follows a group of neighbors in a small Buenos Aires province town who pool their life savings to buy abandoned grain silos and revive their cooperative. Their trust is betrayed when the local bank manager and a corrupt lawyer divert the money, plunging the community into crisis. After a tragic accident leaves cooperative leader Fermín grieving and injured, he and a band of friends — a self-styled anarchist, the train station chief, an explosives-savvy ranch hand, and others — discover the funds are stashed in the lawyer’s hidden bunker. Determined to reclaim what’s theirs, they hatch a meticulous plan to break in and take back the stolen cash. What begins as a practical effort to save livelihoods turns into a tense, bold heist and a rousing act of collective revenge. The film is adapted from Eduardo Sacheri’s novel The Night of the Heroic Losers.
