After a botched attempt to halt climate change plunges the planet into a new Ice Age, the last remnants of humanity survive aboard Snowpiercer, a massive train that endlessly circles the frozen globe. Life on board is rigidly stratified: a small elite enjoy the comforts of the front cars while the vast majority are confined to overcrowded, brutal conditions at the rear. Fed meager rations, policed ruthlessly, and stripped of agency, the tail-section passengers eventually mount a desperate, car-by-car revolt led by Curtis to force their way toward the engine and confront the train’s creator. As they push forward they uncover the system’s harsh mechanisms of control, betrayals, and unsettling truths about how order is maintained. The film uses its claustrophobic, mobile setting to explore class conflict, power, and human behavior when survival and inequality collide.
