Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) Netflix

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai follows a solitary hit man in urban America who lives by an ancient code. Known only as Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker), he keeps to a simple life on a rooftop—raising homing pigeons, playing chess in the park with his friend Raymond (Isaach de Bankolé), and studying Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai. By night he moves like a shadow, carrying out murders with the discipline and ritual of a samurai.

When Ghost Dog spares the mob boss’s daughter after a job, the boss sees him as a liability and orders him killed. As the upturned underworld hunts a man who seems impossible to trace, Ghost Dog must protect himself while remaining true to the moral code that defines him. Torn between loyalty to his master’s retainer Louie (John Tormey) and the brutal logic of the streets, his choices force a confrontation between honor, duty, and the violence surrounding him.

Jim Jarmusch’s film blends crime drama and spiritual reflection, contrasting modern city life with the austere ethics of an ancient warrior.
