Freely inspired by the homonymous work of the Danish writer Isak Dineen. At the beginning of the 20th century, Karen (Streep) contracts a marriage of convenience with Baron Blixen (Brandauer), an inveterate womanizer. Both are established in Kenya with the purpose of exploiting coffee plantation. In Karen Blixen a passionate love for the earth and by Kenya's people is born. But he also falls in love with Denys Finch-Hatton (Redford), an adventurous and romantic character to the old way, who loves freedom above all things.
