When a U.S. submarine shadowing a Russian vessel disappears in Arctic waters, newly promoted Commander Joe Glass takes the Virginia-class USS Arkansas into hostile seas to find out what happened. At the same time, a Navy SEAL team observing a Russian naval base witnesses Defense Minister Dmitri Durov carry out a coup and abduct President Nikolai Zakarin, preparing to provoke a larger conflict.
