Glory (1989) Netflix

Glory tells the story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first Union regiment composed of African American soldiers. Young Boston officer Robert Gould Shaw takes command and must shape a determined but reluctant unit while confronting entrenched racism from his own army and deadly hostility from Confederate forces. Personal clashes—most notably with the defiant Private Trip—give way to mutual respect as the men train, fight for equal recognition, and volunteer to lead the harrowing July 18, 1863 assault on Fort Wagner. Based on historical letters and accounts, the film is a powerful, unflinching tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of these soldiers.
