Dallas Buyers Club (2013) Netflix

Dallas Buyers Club

Based on a true story, Dallas Buyers Club follows Ron Woodroof, a hard-living Texas electrician and rodeo rider who in the mid-1980s is diagnosed HIV-positive and told he has about 30 days to live. Shocked into action, he rejects the limited, often toxic options available in the U.S., seeks alternative treatments abroad and begins importing non-FDA-approved drugs to keep himself alive. Teaming up with a fellow patient, Rayon, and with the reluctant support of Dr. Eve Saks, Ron organizes a membership-based “buyers club" that supplies these therapies to others shut out by hospitals and clinical trials. His efforts bring him into direct conflict with regulators and pharmaceutical interests, forcing him to confront his own prejudices and fight for the right of patients to access medicine.
