Dora, a retired schoolteacher who earns a living at Rio de Janeiro’s Central Station by writing letters for people who cannot, has grown solitary and sharp-edged. When one of her regulars is killed in a car accident, Dora reluctantly becomes guardian to the woman’s nine-year-old son, Josue. Together they travel from the noise of Rio to the remote Northeast as Josue searches for the father he never knew. The journey forces both of them to confront loss, hope and the unexpected bonds that form between them.
