Дзифт (2008) Netflix

Moth, who was unjustly imprisoned just before Bulgaria’s 1944 Communist takeover, is finally paroled and steps out into a Sofia he no longer recognizes — a rigid, oppressive capital of the 1960s. What was meant to be a single night of freedom turns into a frantic, hallucinatory odyssey as he tries to elude the state and piece together the truth about his past.
His nocturnal wanderings trace the contours of a menacing city: monumental Communist architecture around the mausoleum, crumbling neighborhoods, shadowy streets, the canal, bathhouses, hospitals, smoky bars, a cathedral and, ultimately, the graveyard. Along the way Moth collides with an oddball procession of figures — secret agents, medics, drifters, barflies, a former lover and gravediggers — each encounter peeling back layers of deceit through flashbacks, sudden revelations and surreal episodes. The narrative builds to a bleak, telling climax inside the gravediggers’ trailer.
Blending neo-noir mood with darkly satirical Soviet aesthetics, Zift relies on striking, disorienting cinematography and a parable-like structure to explore themes of freedom, justice and the lasting grip of authoritarian power.
