A Prophet (2009) Netflix
A Prophet follows 19-year-old Malik El Djebena, an illiterate Franco-Arab who arrives at an adult French prison for a six-year sentence. Vulnerable and isolated in a facility divided between Corsican and Muslim factions, he is taken under the wing of César Luciani, the ruthless Corsican boss who forces Malik into violent and criminal tasks. As Malik adapts to survive—learning to read and write with the help of a fellow inmate, navigating corrupt guards, and being used in the gang’s outside dealings—he quietly develops his own plans and ambitions. Over time the once-naive newcomer grows more shrewd and resourceful, rising through the prison’s power structure and shaping his life beyond the bars.
