Clarence Worley, a lonely movie buff and Elvis fanatic, meets Alabama Whitman, a young call girl, and their one-night stand quickly turns into love — so impulsively they marry in Detroit. Clarence goes to collect Alabama’s things from her violent pimp, Drexl, and the confrontation turns bloody. In the chaos he and Alabama end up with a suitcase full of uncut cocaine meant for the Sicilian mob. Hoping to sell the drugs and escape, the newlyweds head for Los Angeles with Clarence’s aspiring-actor friend in tow, but their plan sets off a dangerous chain reaction: the mob, local dealers and the police converge to reclaim the dope. Equal parts romantic and violent, the film follows the couple’s reckless flight and the oddball allies and enemies they pick up along the way.
