The story tells the life of a family living in the city of Kure (Hiroshima) during World War II. There we meet Suzu Uranus, a young wife who moves to the city of Kure from a small fishing village after marrying Shusaku Hojo, an officer of the navy who proposes her marriage and who he knows since they were children.
