Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first space mission, joins veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky on what should be his final flight. When a burst of orbital debris rips apart their shuttle and severs all contact with Earth, the two find themselves alone and adrift in the black—tethered only to one another with oxygen and options running out. Racing against time, they improvise with what remains of their equipment and attempt desperate maneuvers to reach another spacecraft while coping with isolation, fear, and the personal demons that the void brings to the surface.
