In 1958, Stevens (Anthony Hopkins), a perfect butler, travels through England. He now works for an American millionaire (Cristopher Reeve) who is the new owner of Darlington Hall, a mansion who lived his stage of greatest splendor twenty years before, when his owner, a British aristocrat, gathered at home the most influential characters of the 30s, a crucial era for the future of Europe. This circumstance allowed Stevens to witness conversations about the most important political facts of the moment.
