The series follows the documentary walks of Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who works in the parks and recreation department in Pawnee, Indiana. Knope teams up with a nurse named Ann to manage to convert what is an abandoned lot into a park, trying to overcome the thousand obstacles of the municipal administration and various collectives.
