Smoking, drinking and insulting people, especially the customers of their bookstore, are the favorite pastimes of Bernard Black (Dylan Moran), a cynical, intolerant and dirty misanthrope who rarely expresses or shows any positive feelings. On the contrary, his assistant and roommate, Manny Bianco (Bill Bailey), is a nice, friendly, hard-working and cheerful person.
