After a painful childhood incident, Jun Naruse becomes convinced that her words only cause harm and stops speaking — even feeling a sharp, physical pain when she tries. She communicates through e-mail and texts, isolating herself and shouldering the guilt of her parents’ divorce. When her teacher puts her into a class project to stage a musical, Jun is slowly drawn back into connection: through music and new friendships she begins to unlock the feelings she has long kept silent and learns to express herself again.
