Knowing (2009) Netflix
In 1959, students at an elementary school bury a time capsule; one shy girl, Lucinda, doesn't draw a picture but fills a page with a long string of numbers. Fifty years later, the capsule is opened and MIT astrophysicist John Koestler — who is raising his young son Caleb alone — ends up with Lucinda’s mysterious sheet. John soon decodes the sequences as dates, locations and casualty totals for real-world disasters, and realizes several predicted events have yet to occur. Teaming up with Lucinda’s grown daughter, he races to warn officials and stop the remaining tragedies, even as Caleb begins experiencing disturbing visions and is followed by enigmatic figures. As the pattern points toward an unstoppable, cataclysmic solar event that could extinguish life on Earth, John must confront whether the future is fixed or still changeable.
