Carrie White is a painfully shy high-school senior who’s been raised in isolation by her fanatically religious mother. When Carrie experiences her first period in the school shower, her classmates cruelly humiliate her; the incident leads one sympathetic girl to persuade her boyfriend to take Carrie to the senior prom, while another plots a vicious prank in retaliation.
At the prom Carrie, for a brief moment, feels accepted — until the prank drenches her in pig’s blood. The public humiliation triggers Carrie’s latent telekinetic abilities, and she uses them to lash out with devastating consequences, turning a night of celebration into a night of horror.
