In 1957, Homer Hickam, who lives in the small mining town of Coalwood, knows, like all boys, that he will end up working in the coal mines. He will not be able to escape that fate because he does not have his brother's talent for soccer. But when the Soviet Sputnik satellite crosses the October sky, everything changes. Homer and his friends decide to build a rocket and, despite initial failures, he manages to convince everyone that even in Coalwood you can dream of stars and space races.
