Set in a grim, postwar future, Equilibrium follows a society that has eradicated conflict by outlawing all emotion: books, art and music are banned, citizens take a daily drug to suppress feeling, and outward displays of emotion are punishable by death. John Preston, a top-ranking Cleric charged with hunting down and eliminating "Sense Offenders," is a loyal enforcer of the regime—until he accidentally misses a dose of the emotion-suppressing drug Prozium. As feelings begin to surface, Preston questions everything he has defended and becomes the unlikely catalyst for rebellion against the totalitarian state.
