They are hired, but placed in different departments and assigned routines that keep them apart.
Domenico drifts through the company as an overlooked errand boy until an elderly clerk’s death opens a permanent desk among a regimented room of typists and clerks. The film closes on him at that small workstation—surrounded by a hum of office machinery—quietly weighing what his new "secure" life will mean for his future.
