After quitting her job as a clinic nurse, Caroline (Hudson) is hired to care for an elderly man who has suffered a stroke, though her wife (Rowlands) greets her with some suspicion. The marriage lives in a sinister southern mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans, in the Mississippi delta (Louisiana). Intrigued by the strange customs of the enigmatic couple, Caroline decides to explore the house. Armed with a skeleton key, she begins to open all the doors until she discovers an attic that holds a terrible secret.
