Young Christine Brown (Alison Lohman), an ambitious Los Angeles bank owner, is dating a charming man, Professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Christine's job is to make home loans. One day, Mrs. Ganush, a mysterious old woman (Lorna Raver), goes to the bank to ask for a moratorium, but Christine refuses and Mrs. Ganush loses her home. The old woman then decides to take revenge on her through a curse that turns her life into hell. Faced with the incomprehension of her skeptical boyfriend, Christine seeks the help of a seer (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. Trying to help her regain a normal life, the seer guides her into a frantic race to cast her spell. But the forces of evil must draw near and Christine must face something unthinkable.
