Bedford Stuyvesant, one of Brooklyn’s most humble neighborhoods, is home to several black families, some Hispanics, a Vietnamese merchant couple and an Italian American family that has a pizza shop. Mookie, a boy who works as a pizza delivery man, knows the neighbors well and is a privileged witness not only to the daily life of the neighborhood, but also to the tensions and racism of some of its inhabitants.
