Based on a true story, Lion follows Saroo, a five-year-old boy from a poor rural family in India who becomes separated from his brother and accidentally boards a train that carries him far from home to the streets of Calcutta. Decades later, haunted by memories of his first family, Saroo quietly embarks on a determined search using online mapping tools to try to pinpoint his hometown and reunite with the relatives he lost. The film traces his emotional journey between two very different worlds as he seeks answers and belonging.
