Four high-school students serving detention discover an old video-game console and are literally pulled into Jumanji’s jungle world, inhabiting the mismatched adult avatars they picked. Stripped of their usual identities, each teen gains new strengths — and glaring weaknesses — and must use those abilities to survive marauding wildlife, deadly traps, and increasingly dangerous levels. With a limited number of lives and a mission to recover a priceless gem and finish the game, they have to learn to work together, face the mystery of someone who vanished years before, and change how they see themselves if they hope to get back home. Part action-adventure, part comedy, the film turns the board-game legend into a modern video-game quest.
