When toxic chemicals contaminate Seoul's Han River, a huge mutated creature emerges and begins terrorizing the city. During the chaos the monster snatches Hyun-seo, the young daughter of snack-bar worker Gang-du, and his close-knit but troubled family—his father who runs the riverside stand, his sister the archer, and his disaffected brother—rally to rescue her. As the military struggles to stop the beast, the family's desperation drives them into a dangerous, often darkly comic struggle to save Hyun-seo and confront the consequences of the contamination.
