The Informant! (2009) Netflix
In the early 1990s, Mark Whitacre, a successful executive at agricultural giant Archer Daniels Midland, secretly agrees to work with the FBI after uncovering a multinational scheme to fix prices. Convinced his cooperation will make him a celebrated whistleblower, he becomes the bureau’s inside man—planting bugs, wearing a wire and supplying evidence against his own company.
As the investigation unfolds, Whitacre’s self-image shifts from corporate vice president to amateur spy. His eagerness to play the hero, along with mounting lies and personal struggles that hint at underlying mental-health issues, begin to compromise the case and put his career, relationships and freedom at risk. The result is a darkly comic, true-story drama about ambition, deception and the limits of self-delusion.
