When Lincoln Burrows is condemned to death for a high-profile murder he insists he didn't commit, his younger brother Michael Scofield refuses to accept the verdict. A structural engineer by trade, Michael deliberately engineers a crime that lands him inside the same penitentiary so he can free Lincoln before the execution. To pull it off he conceals the prison’s layout and escape plan in an elaborate full-body tattoo and begins to put his carefully timed scheme into motion.
Inside the walls of Fox River, Michael must win the trust of fellow inmates — from a loyal cellmate to a dangerous mob figure — while navigating the prison’s staff and a growing web of corruption. Outside, friends and allies work through legal channels and covert inquiries, uncovering a larger conspiracy that reaches far beyond the prison yard. The series follows their tense, season-long struggle to beat the clock and prove Lincoln’s innocence.
