Balto, a Siberian wolfdog, mix of husky and wolf, is confused about his origins and is marginalized in Alaska, except for his true friends. One day, out of the blue, a diphtheria epidemic spreads among the children of Nome, but a violent snowstorm blocks all transportation routes and getting the necessary medicine becomes impossible...unless a pack of dogs can get across a thousand kilometers pulling a sled through the vicious arctic storm and back with the antitoxin. And only Balto can rescue the dogs and save the children.
