When the dead inexplicably rise and begin feeding on the living, a small band of strangers is driven to barricade themselves inside a remote Pennsylvania farmhouse. After Barbra escapes a cemetery attack and joins Ben at the house, they find several other people hiding in the basement and together try to fortify the place against the shambling hordes outside. As news and rumors—some blaming a radiation-covered satellite—spread, fuel runs low and tensions inside the group flare, with arguments and fear threatening their chances as much as the monsters. With the creatures only stoppable by destroying the brain, the night becomes a grim test of solidarity, courage and survival.
