Five years after the end of the American civil war, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks), veteran of three wars, travels from city to city by narrating news, talking about presidents and queens, of glorious struggles, devastating catastrophes and exciting adventures that They take place in any corner of the world. One day, in the Texas plains, the captain meets Johanna, a ten -year -old girl kidnapped six years ago by the Kiowa tribe, and who during that time was educated as one of them. Johanna, against her will, must move to her uncles house, a hostile and unknown place for her. Captain Kidd agrees to give the girl to her legal tutors.
