When U.S. Fish and Wildlife tracker Cory Lambert stumbles across the frozen body of an 18-year-old Native woman on the remote Wind River Indian Reservation, the case becomes a federal matter. The FBI dispatches rookie agent Jane Banner, and the inexperienced investigator and the seasoned tracker form an uneasy alliance to determine whether the girl's death—occurring in the brutal Wyoming winter—was a crime.
As they probe the tight-knit community, limited evidence and local mistrust hinder the investigation. Autopsy results and the scene point to violence layered over fatal exposure, forcing Cory and Jane to piece together a dangerous chain of events. Along the way, Cory must face painful memories of his own past while both he and Jane press for justice in a place where the elements and secrecy conspire against them.
