Ip Man is a semi-biographical drama about Yip Man, the renowned Wing Chun master. Set in 1930s–40s Foshan as Japan’s invasion upends daily life, the film follows Ip as his comfortable existence collapses into poverty and his community faces occupation, brutality and street violence. Forced to take whatever work he can and to protect those around him, he relies on his exceptional martial skill to stand up to corrupt forces and local thugs. Donnie Yen stars in Wilson Yip’s film, with fight choreography by Sammo Hung.
