Blancanieves is a silent, black-and-white reimagining of the Snow White tale transplanted to 1920s Seville. After the death of his wife in childbirth, famed matador Antonio Villalta marries his scheming nurse Encarna, who later cruelly hides his disabled state and mistreats his daughter Carmen. Sent away and presumed dead after an attempted murder, Carmen is rescued by a troupe of itinerant bullfighting dwarfs who discover her natural talent in the ring and give her the stage name “Blancanieves." As she rises toward fame as a female matador, long-buried family secrets and Encarna’s treachery threaten to destroy her hard-won new life.
