About a year after the events of the original Stargate film, the U.S. government discovers that the ancient Stargate device provides instantaneous travel to a network of gates on other planets. To explore that network and protect Earth, a covert Air Force unit called SG-1 is assembled at Stargate Command in the Rocky Mountains.
Led by Colonel Jack O'Neill, the core team — archaeologist Daniel Jackson, astrophysicist Samantha Carter, and alien warrior Teal'c — travels to distant worlds to make allies, recover advanced technologies, solve ancient mysteries, and respond to galactic threats. Across its run, SG-1 faces hostile powers such as the parasitic Goa'uld, the machine-like Replicators, and the militant Ori, while dealing with interstellar politics, war, and personal transformations that stretch into the realms of ascension.
The series ran from 1997 to 2007 and spans many seasons of offworld missions and evolving storylines. In later years the show introduces new leaders and teammates — including Major Cameron Mitchell and General Hank Landry — and recurring figures like Vala and Jaffa leaders who reshape SG-1’s alliances and challenges as the galaxy changes.
