Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), a graduate student in Astronomy, and her teacher, Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make such a startling and terrifying discovery: a huge comet leads a direct collision course with Earth. There are only six months left for the impact of the comet, but managing the flow of news and gaining the attention of a public obsessed with social networks before it is too late is surprisingly comical.
