Kingpin (1996) Netflix

Kingpin

Roy Munson was once a rising star in the bowling world, but a disastrous scheme left him maimed and washed-up. Years later he ekes out a miserable living selling bowling supplies and wearing a prosthetic hand, until he crosses paths with Ishmael, a shy Amish farm boy who has an uncanny talent for the lanes. Seeing a chance at redemption and quick cash, Roy persuades Ishmael to leave the farm and tour the pro circuit so they can win enough prize money to help Ishmael’s family.

Their unlikely partnership starts bringing them success, attention and plenty of comic misadventures, but it also forces Roy to confront old regrets—especially when they run into Ernie McCracken, the arrogant rival who helped ruin Roy’s career. Equal parts broad, crude comedy and surprisingly heartfelt drama, the story follows Roy’s bumpy road back to relevance and Ishmael’s clash between simple roots and sudden fame.
