After his mother dies from a heroin overdose, 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody moves in with his estranged grandmother in a Southern California beach town and quickly becomes drawn into the family's dangerous world. The Cody clan, led by the ruthless matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody and her enforcer Baz, lives a lavish, high-risk lifestyle funded by criminal enterprises. J must learn to survive amid volatile uncles—Pope, the oldest and most violent; Craig, the tough middle son; and Deran, the troubled youngest—as loyalties, schemes and violence escalate.
