Adaptation of the homonymous novel by Patricia Highsmith. Set in the late fifties. Tom Ripley (Matt Damon), a young employee of a Manhattan services company, borrows a Princeton jacket to play the piano at an outdoor party. When the rich owner of the house chat with him, Ripley makes him believe that he is a friend and colleague of his son Dickie (Jude Law); Then, the father offers him a thousand dollars if he goes to Italy and convinces Dickie to return home. When he meets Dickie, who is a playboy, he is fascinated with the lifestyle that he and his girlfriend Marge (Paltrow).
