He tells the real story of the young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his historic battle for justice. After graduating in Harvard, Bryan receives very lucrative job offers. But he prefers to set up to Alabama to defend people who have been mistakenly convicted or who lacked resources to have adequate legal representation, and does so with the support of local activist Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first and most turbulent cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who in 1987 was sentenced to the death of death by the murder of an 18 -year -old girl, despite the fact that the evidence showed his innocence ostensibly. In later years, Bryan is involved in a maze of legal and political maneuvers and an open and shameless racism while fighting Walter and others like him, despite having everything against him, including the legal system.
